An Adelaide Hills institution, Matilda Bookshop has been selling books since 1982, and after a couple of moves, has been in the same location, in the heart of Stirling, since 1998. 

ABOUT US

Owned and staffed by book-lovers, Matilda is an independent bookshop, with a loyal following of customers whose tastes and interests we love to get to know. Specialising in New Release fiction, Gardening, Cooking, Art & Design, Current Affairs, Biography and History, we cater to a range of desires and sensibilities.

We also have a wonderful collection of children’s books (for baby through to teen) in our cosy and inviting kids’ room. If stationery is your thing then you’ll love our range of beautiful cards, journals, notebooks and gifts. We also supply books to the libraries of many schools and kindergartens, and to a number of community libraries. 

Matilda Bookshop brings a range of wonderful authors to you throughout the year by hosting Meet the Author sessions both in store and at other venues. We also support community projects such as the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. See our Events page for more details about upcoming author events and community engagement. Our Author Q&As are a fascinating insight into some of our favourite writers. 

We run book clubs for all different ages: the original Matilda Book Club for adult readers, The Red Door Book Club held monthly in the shop, as well as the Tremendous Teens Book Club for teenagers and the Magical Minds Book Club for younger readers.

Our books are carefully and lovingly selected, so you can be sure to find something special when you come in for a browse. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, our helpful staff will point you in the right direction, or will order in a particular title for you.
